Welcome to 2022! I am hopeful this year will be better than the last few. It can’t get any worse, can it?

Wait, I didn’t ask that and didn’t answer it either.

With a new year, now is the time to start a new you! Or a new business!

I have done writing challenges in the past, but instead of a set time frame, like 30 days, my goal is to write for a minimum of five minutes every day. What goals do you have?

So, yes, I have written about goal setting in the past, and it’s already February but let’s recap.

Take a goal you have, like writing more, and make it more specific and easy to accomplish. Using the example of writing for five minutes a day.

This makes the goal you have easy to accomplish. It’s also one of the reasons I’m writing this post. The website needs more content, and I’m trying to give you enough information this month to start your own website!

Check out the Building Your Freedom section of this website for more.

So, as you can see, breaking down your larger goals (wiring more) into a smaller bite-sized piece or easier goals (writing for five minutes) allows you to create something that you know you can achieve!

Some More Goals Of Mine

If you didn’t know this about me, I don’t ever make New Year’s Resolutions. This is mainly because numerous studies (such as this one) show they fail 80% of the time!

80% of the time!

That’s crazy! So instead, let’s work on setting goals that we can achieve and make our lives better. Leave the resolutions for the other 80% of people out there.

You might have similar goals, but here are some of mine, in no particular order:

  • Build my own business
  • Helping others
  • Learning every day (web design, business, SEO, different cultures, people, and life)
  • Read more (10 minutes a day, that is)
  • Set my own schedule
  • Walking up when I want (not waking up to an alarm clock)
  • Stop and reflect (meditation)
  • Spending time with family, friends
  • Living for experiences
  • Health and fitness (working out, hiking, camping, and being outdoors)

I think I’ll stop here. There is a funny thing with goals and things you want to do with your life. Sometimes you don’t have the ability. Other times, you realize that you do, and you need to make the most of it.

For example, I have loved the idea of working remotely. It has been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember. But, previously being a first responder, I couldn’t see that being feasible.

Fast forward to today, and guess what? I’m building my own business and am finally working on that goal.

Due to 2020 and the virus, many companies are considering the remote work or WFH (work from home) concept. I read that companies, such as Twitter, are giving their employees the decision on if they want to come back or continue WFH.

Reason For Working Remotely

Ever since my first trip abroad, I have wanted to go back. I really enjoyed seeing other cultures and learning from others.

Having the ability to work remotely would be amazing and life-changing. This is one reason I started this blog, and I wanted to see if I could actually write and help others start their own side businesses.

Ultimately escaping from the 9-5 job.

Not only would working remotely be amazing, but it would also be a freeing experience. Case and point read about My Perfect Day here.

For example, during my last road trip, I set up in my car (or my mobile workstation) and wrote a few blog posts. During this time, I found that the only downfall is trying to find a good WiFi signal.

Working where there is the internet is the ultimate dream for many. And with satellite wifi becoming a thing, the possibilities are endless!

As you may not know, my road trip was during the start of everything shutting down due to COVID.

That made it difficult to get a signal as my cell phone wasn’t the best. I did find a few places that I could get online (like after getting food or coffee and parking close to their business).

I’m sure there are other issues of finding time to work while also exploring the world. I feel that I have a strong work ethic, and as long as I set aside time, I would get my “Work” done.

Can you relate?

Just imagine you are working while at the Grand Canyon. Or you are at a cafe in Paris on your computer taking in the sights, smells, and sounds around you.

Finding Work

I’m going to try and stop rambling and tie this into a business.

Since you now have a website or blog, now is a time to start making money with it.

There are a few different approaches.

The main one is becoming an Affiliate for companies. This is a fun and interesting way to make some extra bucks. It could also be an entire post by itself, and if you are interested in that, let me know!

Another thing you can do is freelance writing, which I am currently doing.

There are many other things you can look into.

You might be experiencing something common right now. It feels that you don’t have the required experience for remote jobs.

Well, you might be surprised by some things you can do to fix this. Such as taking online classes or starting your own BLOG!

Oh wait, that’s what we are already doing.

Start Today

As you can see, there really isn’t anything holding you back.

There is light at the end of the tunnel (in this case, becoming location independent).

Remember to read my post on your perfect day if you need motivation. But focusing on the important things in your life, like being with friends and family while also earning enough to support me, would be amazing.

Looking back at the list of “goals” above, you can see they are all about building a business and spending time with the things I enjoy.

Your situation might be different than mine, and I’m sure it is. But find out what is holding you back, so you can start to move forward.

A few examples could be job security, benefits, relationships, family, children, mortgage, and so on.

You might even realize that starting a side gig, like writing, is something you can do in your spare time. Many people, including myself, are doing that right now.

What Are Your Thoughts?

This post was for you as well as a reminder for me.

We need to set our own path and achieve what we want. I have been trying my best to stop focusing on the past because you cannot do anything about it. Instead, look towards the future, which is something you can influence.

Reflect on the previous year and determine what you liked and didn’t like. Make adjustments for the remaining time you have to make the most of it.

We tend to focus on all the things that we haven’t been able to do. With COVID, that’s a never-ending list.

Starting today, try and focus on the positive.

Have you, or do you currently, work remotely?

I will be interested if anyone knows of any jobs or where you have looked for jobs. Who knows, this might be another place people can throw some information, and we can all learn.

If there is anything I can help you with regarding getting your own website up and running, let me know.

The more questions you ask, the more we can all learn.
